
The European project LIFE InBioSoil officially started with a kick-off meeting held on October 16th, 2025, at the facilities of Eurecat Technology Centre in Barcelona, marking the launch of a four-year initiative to demonstrate a new sustainable method for restoring polluted soils.
During the meeting, partners presented the technical work plan and discussed the next steps to develop and test an innovative biological solution to clean contaminated soils directly in place — avoiding excavation, reducing energy consumption, and minimising greenhouse gas emissions.
The day after the meeting, participants visited a potential demonstration site – a petrol station in El Prat de Llobregat, where the project’s nature-based remediation techniques could be implemented.
LIFE InBioSoil focuses on soils polluted with persistent chemicals that remain in the environment for decades and can threaten water quality, biodiversity, and food safety. The project’s solution combines low-pressure injection technology, natural biosurfactants, and specialised fungi that stimulate microorganisms to break down harmful pollutants.
Coordinated by Eurecat, the project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium including Tecnoambiente (Spain), Injectis (Belgium) and Novobiom (Belgium).
