The LIFE InBioSoil project was presented to the international scientific community at the 20th International Symposium on Persistent Toxic Substances and Health (ISPTS 2026) held in Bologna, Italy from September 9 to 13, 2026, providing an opportunity to introduce its innovative approach to the in situ biological remediation of soils contaminated by persistent organic pollutants and hydrocarbons.
The session was organised by BIOSYSMO, a sister project of LIFE InBioSoil and, together with InBioSoil, part of the ALL4BIOREM cluster, which brings together European projects working on innovative bioremediation solutions for contaminated environments.
During the symposium, Asia Rosatelli researcher from Eurecat, presented the main challenges, objectives and technological approach of InBioSoil. Coordinated by Eurecat’s Water, Air and Soil Unit, this project is developing an in situ bioremediation strategy based on microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi capable of degrading pollutants directly in the contaminated soil.
The project combines these biological processes with low-pressure injection technologies, designed to deliver the treatment into the subsurface while minimising disturbance to the site.
Participation in ISPTS 2026 provided an opportunity to share this approach with international specialists and exchange knowledge on emerging solutions for the monitoring, detection and remediation of persistent and emerging contaminants, as well as their impacts on the environment and human health.
